Bio
Dr. Richard Wainess received his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Technology from the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education. Prior to joining CRESST as a senior researcher, Dr. Wainess was a senior lecturer in the University of Southern California's Information Technology Program. His research interests center on the use of games and simulations for training and assessment of adult and young learners. Richard's most recent research strands are focused on assessment of problem solving and decision making using video games, and on learning educational content within video games. Richard has authored and co-authored numerous reports, articles, and book chapters and has presented at many conferences on the topic of games and simulations for learning, with a particular emphasis on instructional methods, cognitive load theory, learning outcomes, and motivation. His teaching and industry experiences include: digital media design and management; 3D modeling, animation, and visual effects; interactive multimedia production; video writing, producing and directing; and video game design and development.
