My name is Dr. Ricardo Rademacher. You can call me Dr. Ricardo, Dr. Rademacher, or just plain ol' Ricardo!
I have a PhD in physics where I studied particle physics and thus how the universe is put together. During my program, I did a lot of programming. In fact, you could say that my formal degree was in Computational Theoretical Particle Physics (you could say it, but not very often!). After getting my degree, I taught at a local university for about 3 years, where I taught introductory Physics courses. This was a great experience that taught me a lot about teaching even as I was teaching physics!
However, after leaving the traditional academic university, I started exploring other educational venues. This is where I entered the online world. I feel that online teaching could well become if not the future of education then at least a powerful compliment to traditional teaching. In order to fully explore this idea, I formed my own software development company. You see, I felt that Video Games could be used for more than just entertainment. I felt they could be used to education and to teach, of all things, PHYSICS! So four years ago I started down the path of creating an educational Video Game, an educational Massively Multiplayer Video Game no less.
So as you can I have a varied career spanning physics, math, and video games. I hope to bring all these various fields as well as a true passion for teaching to this conference and I hope that you will come out of my presentation with a new appreciation of Physics, Video Games and more!
