Bio
Corey Dangel is Co-Founder, Chief Creative Officer, Director of HR, PR & Human-Cyborg Relations, & 5th Degree Multiple-Hat Wearer at Detonator Games. A 17-year veteran of the games industry, Corey has spent the vast majority of his career managing creative teams for major corporations such as Microsoft and Sony. At Microsoft, Corey was the first Art Director hired in the games division and, as a founding member of Microsoft's Internet Gaming Zone, launched multiple pay-to-play, downloadable, and subscription-based games before the internet was even a mainstream utility. In 1998 he left Microsoft to join Cavedog Entertainment but returned to Microsoft two years later to art direct projects for both Xbox and PC. He left Microsoft in 2004 to help form Sony Online's Seattle studio.
Sensing the twin revolutions called "Social" and "Mobile Gaming," Corey left the comforts of a predictable paycheck to seek his fortune as co-founder of an independent game studio (Detonator Games). The last two years have been filled with excitement and a variety of daily challenges as the studio grows beyond the original three founders to "7 employees plus an army of interns" and more. Corey's experience straddles the complete spectrum, from multinational megacorps to scrappy independents. It is from this perspective that he has been involved with Advisory Committees for Cogswell College, Cornish College of the Arts, DigiPen Institute of Technology, and the Art Institute of Seattle.
